Scholarship Opportunities

The VRLTA Foundation (VRLTAF) offers annual scholarships to provide financial assistance to worthy individuals studying in the hospitality industry. Scholarships are designed to provide assistance to deserving students seeking to further their knowledge at all levels of higher education. Through generous financial contributions from restaurateurs, hoteliers and hospitality suppliers throughout the Commonwealth, we have been able to provide over $200,000 in scholarship funding to high school students studying in the hospitality field. 

VRLTAF Scholarships

Applications will open on January 23, 2024. All applications must be submitted by May 1, 2024. 

Graduating High School, Vocational School or Post Secondary School Scholarship

Awarded to high school and vocational school graduates who plan to study in the hospitality industry at a Virginia two year or four year college/ university or post secondary school that specializes in culinary arts. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. The student’s academic background is expected to be a C average or better.

Four Year College/ University Scholarship

Designed for students who have completed two full years at a four year college/ university majoring in the hospitality industry management and has demonstrated successful academic achievement and interest in the hospitality industry. A student must have achieved a 2.5 overall grade point average on a 4-point system and have demonstrated a successful work experience background within the industry.

Community College Scholarship

Designed for students who have completed one year of hospitality industry education at a Virginia Community College and have achieved a 2.5 overall grade point average on a 4-point system. In addition, they must have demonstrated their interest in the industry by having either part-time or summer work experience in the hospitality industry.

School

Graduating High School, Vocational School or Post Secondary School Scholarship (Out of State)

Awarded to high school and vocational school graduates who plan to study the hospitality industry at either a two year or four year college/ university or post secondary school students who specialize in the culinary arts not in Virginia. The award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry as well as a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. The student’s academic background is expected to be a C average or better.

Awarded to high school graduates who plan to study in the hospitality industry at a two year or four year college/university or post-secondary school that specializes in culinary arts or hospitality management. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. Students must be graduates from Loudoun County Public Schools or attend George Mason University and plan to study in the culinary or hospitality industry.

Awarded to high school graduates who plan to study in the hospitality industry at a two year or four year college/university or post-secondary school that specializes in culinary arts or hospitality management. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. Students must be graduates from Alexandria City Public Schools, Arlington County Public Schools, Culpeper County Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, Frederick County Public Schools, Loudoun County Public Schools, Prince William County Public Schools, or attend George Mason University, and plan to study in the culinary or hospitality industry.

Awarded to high school graduates who plan to study in the hospitality industry at a two year or four year college/university or post-secondary school that specializes in culinary arts or hospitality management. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. Students must be graduates from Arlington City Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools, Loudoun County Public Schools, Prince William County Public Schools, Richmond City Public Schools or attend George Mason University, or Reynolds Community College and plan to study in the culinary/hospitality industry.

The Retro Hospitality Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who plan to study at a two year or four year college/university or post-secondary school that specializes in culinary arts or hospitality management. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. Students must have attended Chesterfield County Public Schools, Hanover County Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools, or Richmond City Public Schools and plan to study in the culinary or hospitality industry at a school in Virginia.

Fairfax County established the Janet Rockymore Murray Culinary Memorial Scholarship to honor the memory of the FCPS Culinary Instructor and foster the culinary arts fields for generations to come. This award is eligible for students who have completed Culinary Arts 1 & 2 (having earned 2.0 credits for each course within FCPS), have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and plan to major in Culinary Arts at either a college/university or technical school.
